The Nortel Norstar telephone has a testing mode that allows for testing a telephones handset.

To test a telephone set handset press the Feature button ( <or> ) followed by pressing 805 then press the either the pound sign button or NEXT twice.

The LCD Display should now read Handset Test.

To proceed with testing the handset, press either the LCD Display button directly below the word TEST or press the Hold button ( <or> ).

Now listening through the handset one should hear dial tone at a maximum volume level. Otherwise, there is a problem with the handset or handset curly cord.

Pressing any telephone button now will end the handset test.
